Free-standing cast and hand-collaged sculpture of sulphur bronze and silver by Boston-area artist Richard Filipowski. A densely textured, naturalistic form in the shape of a footed cube. A favorite student of Moholy-Nagy in Chicago, Filipowski went on to teach a Bauhaus fundamentals course at MIT for 36 years, all the while sculpting, painting, and designing."Cube" was shown at the Joan Peterson Gallery in Boston in 1962. Filipowski is the subject of a recently published monograph, "Richard Filipowski: Art & Design Beyond the Bauhaus" from Monacelli Press. The present work is illustrated on page 145. Provenance: the estate of Richard Filipowski.
