Hatfield/Craig Organic Design Chair

$6,500.00

$6,500

United States
c. 1941

Chair with tilting seat back in solid birch with a vintage seat cushion fabric. A winning entry by Ann Hatfield and Martin Craig in the seminal MoMA 1941 "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" competition. Few ever produced, owing to America's entry into WWII a month after the MoMA show opened in November, 1941. Still, the show--and the exigencies of war--influenced the direction of American design in the 1940's.

Condition
Good original structural condition and patina with scratches, scuffing, and variegation to the finish consistent with age and use. Vintage though not necessarily original fabric.
