"Ant Bench," a one-of-a-kind tour-de-force by American artist James Bearden. The blackened steel hand-welded and textured substructure and grille were created around a long and slender peanut-shaped found walnut slab, presenting the overall appearance of a fanciful giant insect. The anthropomorphic and animated-looking work has a surrealist or otherworldly aspect, too: think Architectural Pottery or George Nakashima meets H.R. Geiger or Yves Tanguy. Can be used as a bench and/or table, indoors or outdoors. Bearden's work was featured in a 2020 solo exhibition at the NY Design Center titled "James Bearden: Technical and Aesthetic Revelations," in an article in the January 2017 Interior Design Magazine; in an introspective feature on 1stdibs; and in a feature article in DSM Magazine. Full CV available. Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist. With a certificate of authenticity.
